  • Alpine Endeavors is hiring hiking guides and AMGA guides and instructors for the 2023 season.

    Based in New Paltz, NY, Alpine Endeavors is an AMGA Accredited guide service.

    For hiking and Via Ferrata, we are looking for NYS licensed hiking guides. Bookings are a mix of half days and full days, based in the Gunks, days include working with groups and private clients at all areas across the ridge - Mohonk Preserve, Minnewaska State Park, and Mohonk, for hiking, and at Mohonk with their new Via Ferrata. Included in the day are daily trip reports, transportation of clients in company vehicle for certain programs, and some other tasks like gear organization, etc.

    Scheduling is flexible but would consist of most weekends, as well as weekdays, ideally 3-4 days a week. Candidates are expected to be available for work for the whole season, and especially during the busy times (July-November). A more limited schedule option is a possibility

    For climbing, we are looking for single pitch instructors and multi pitch guides. Bookings are a mix of full days and half days, based in the Gunks, with potential for the Adirondacks and beyond. Days include working with groups and private clients at all areas across the ridge - Mohonk Preserve, Minnewaska State Park, and Sky Top, for rock climbing as well as hiking and team building programs. Rock climbing options can include: introductory skills, movement, top rope anchors, learn to lead, multi pitch skills, kids’ camps, group programs, general climbing days, etc.. with daily reports posted, and transportation of clients in company vehicle for certain programs, and some other tasks like gear organization, etc..

    Scheduling is flexible but would consist of most weekends, as well as weekdays, ideally 3-4 days a week. Candidates are expected to be available for work for the whole season, and especially during the busy times (July-October). A more limited schedule option is a possibility

  • Via Ferrata guide applicants will need to have the following at a minimum,
    • First Aid
    • CPR
    • NYS Licensed for hiking
    • Familiarity with rock climbing skills such as belaying and knots.

    Applicants will need to have the following minimum credentials for single pitch employment:

    * AMGA Certified Single Pitch Instructor

    * First Aid

    * CPR

    * New York State Guides License for Tier II rock

    Applicants will need to have the following minimum credentials for multi-pitch:

    * AMGA Certified Single Pitch Instructor

    * AMGA Apprentice Rock Guide (rock guide course graduate)

    * First Aid

    * CPR

    * New York State Guides License for Tier I Rock

    In addition to the minimum requirements, having additional AMGA training and/or NYS Guide Licenses would be a benefit for more potential work, examples; New York State Guide License for Ice Climbing or Hiking; AMGA Certified Rock Instructor, Multi Pitch Instructor, Rock Guide, Ice Instructor Course, LNT, etc.. Preference will be given toward AMGA Apprentice Rock Guides or above, as well as those with previous guiding experience.

    Other requirements:

    Be an active climber with a minimum of 3 years of climbing experience

    21 years old or older

    Positive communication and personal skills

    Personal climbing equipment - rack, helmet, harness, shoes, etc..

    Personal transportation

    Personal smartphone

    Familiarity with the Gunks is a plus, but not needed.

  • Wages range from $140 to $200 for full days based on experience and certification, with daily increases for lead guide and/or gear guide positions, plus 401k.
