So you have reservations with us and need some lunch or dinner?

Climbing will definitely give you an appetite. Here are some of our favorite places to eat:

New Paltz:

  • Main Street Bistro - located right on Main St

  • Bacchus - located around the corner from Rock and Snow

  • Mexicali Blue - up on Main Street , across from Starbuck's Coffee. You can't go wrong here

Gardiner:

Bistro Mountain Store - located at the intersection of RT 299 & RT 44/55. This is the place to pick up a sandwich on the way to the Gunks. Call ahead and have it ready for when you get there - 845-255-2999

Clay - 2702 Main St, Gardiner, NY 12525. (855) 472-3188 Serving breakfast, lunch and dinner, the rustic new American menu pairs seasonal vegetables grown from local farms and onsite in clay rich soils, with well-sourced animal proteins for a dining experience that celebrates the region’s bounty. 9/1/22- Reservations will be able to be made through Resy which is not up and running yet.

Rosendale/High Falls:

  • Alternative Baker - 845-658-3355 Located on Main St (Rt 213), they make THE best baked goods using only the best ingredients. be sure to try the Lemon Velvet Bites and breakfast sandwich

  • Big Cheese - 845-658-7175 Located on Main St (Rt 213), they make great breakfast and lunch sandwiches

  • The Postage Inn - Located on RT 32N between the two bridges on your way to Rosendale from New Paltz

  • The Rosendale Cafe - Main St (RT 213). It has its' own reputation for good food. Organic, vegetarian and vegan meals served.

  • Egg’s Nest - 845-687-7255 Main ST (RT 213), High Falls. You pretty much can't go wrong here with any choice.

If you want to come up the night before or stay for a few….

Camping - There are a few areas to camp in the Gunks.

American Alpine Club Shawangunk Gateway Campground

Located at 953 Route 299, Gardiner, NY 12525

The AAC worked with the local land managers to open a great campground - opening day was May 15, 2015! Space is limited with some sites being open to reservations and some first come first served for both drive up and walk in sites.

  • $24/night per campsite for AAC and Mohonk Preserve members; $38/night per campsite for non-members

  • Limit 4 people per campsite

  • 50 tent sites, with parking for one vehicle per site, additional parking is available off site.

  • Open May 15 through mid-November, weather permitting

  • Office hours: 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday through Thursday; 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday

  • No RV's or large vehicles are allowed

  • Amenities include: pay showers, covered pavilion, fire ring, drinking water, etc.

Creek View Campground : Located 7 miles north of New Paltz on RT 32 in Rosendale. They offer tenting, rent out small rv/trailers, and hot showers. If you're staying at the free campgrounds you can get a shower here for a few dollars. Call them at 845-658-9142. 

Yogi Bear campground/KOA 845-255-5193 : Located off RT 44/55 in Gardiner. They offer tenting, rv hookups, and showers.

Both Camp Slime on the Mohonk Preserve and the NYSDEC Multi-use area are Closed. Please use the AAC Campground.


Lodging - There’s some great options in New Paltz.

World Class Resorts

Mohonk Mountain House - This is THE PLACE to stay. They are located in New Paltz, on top of the ridge. The last of the great mountain resorts, this castle like structure is incredible. They are an all-inclusive resort, and now offer rock climbing at Sky Top to their overnight guests.. Call them at 845-255-1000.

Bed and Breakfast’s

Minnewaska Lodge 845-255-1110 located in Gardiner right under the cliffs. A great place to stay! 

Mountain Meadows 845-255-6144 located in New Paltz, good view of the cliffs.

The Inn at Kettleboro 914-213-2487 located in New Paltz, the Inn at Kettleboro is an 1830 Dutch Colonial recently renovated to bring you modern amenities in a historic setting.

Inn at the Ridge 845-895-9251 located in-between Wallkill and Gardiner, at the foot of the Tillson Lake area, which is now under the Minnewaska State Park Preserve. They are pet friendly and are very close to all aspects of climbing & hiking.

Bernetta's Place  845-464-5106 a pet friendly Bed and Breakfast in Gardiner providing great atmosphere and incredible access to Tilson Lake in Minnewaska State Park.
