AMGA Certified Rock Instructor
The Rock Instructor (RI) Exam examines candidates on climbs through Grade III and up to 5.10a/A0. You will learn or refine your skills in risk-management, industry standards, route finding, technical skills, terrain assessment, rescue scenarios, and client care. This terrain covers many areas in the NorthEast and across the country. The RI teaches climbing instructors to proficiently facilitate and instruct the sport of rock climbing in a multi pitch setting.
The RI certification came to end in 2019. The AMGA started the Multi-Pitch Instructor (MPI) to replace it.
RI Certification requires participation in the 10 day Rock Guide Course, and then successfully completing a 6 day exam. That makes the total requirements for the RI to be 16 days. In addition, the RI needs to have CPR and a Wilderness First Responder Certification or higher.
